Primary Courses
Course fees are $480 per 12 week session. Additional book and materials fees may apply. All mathematics courses require the purchase of KIS Math Blocks $75.
Reading A
This course emphasizes reading, spelling, and vocabulary. Simple comprehension exercises and basic grammar concepts are introduced. Students will learn to discriminate sounds and develop blends.
Reading B
Students will apply decoding and encoding skills to master extensive comprehension. New letter patterns are introduced and cover most of the linguistic structures in English leading to a pronounced increase in vocabulary.
Reading C
Uses fundamental structures taught in Reading A and B to introduce multi-syllable words, prefixes, and suffixes. Grammar skills, parts of speech, and a solid foundation for expository writing are developed.
Mathematics 1
Hands-on and mnemonic techniques stimulate memorizing the basic addition facts. Students apply this knowledge using blocks to grasp concepts such as; column addition with regrouping, place value to $100.00, money skills, perimeter, solving for the unknown, and problem solving.
Mathematics 2
Hands-on and mnemonic techniques stimulate memorizing the basic subtraction facts. Students apply this knowledge using blocks and stories to grasp concepts such as; subtraction with regrouping, place value to billions, place value notation, solving for the unknown, rounding and estimating, graphs, and problem solving.
Mathematics 3
Students learn songs with hand symbols to enhance memorizing the multiplication and division facts. Manipulatives and mnemonics promote visual, conceptual understanding. Other concepts taught include multiplication with regrouping, the division process, basic fractions, factoring, area and perimeter, and problem solving.
Mathematics 4
Through mnemonics, visuals, and models, students will create an understanding of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of fractions, decimals, and percents; mixed numbers; improper fractions; equivalency; LCD; lowest form; and division with regrouping.
NXT Robotics
Students will gain, display and master Lego NXT/Mindstorms robots through designing, building and programming robots. This program is offered in 2-9 week sessions. Offered by Advancing Robots, $20 materials fee. (1 semester course).
Secondary Courses
Course fees are $480 per 12 week session. Additional book and materials fees may apply. All mathematics courses require the purchase of KIS Math Blocks $75 and KIS Algebra Blocks $35.
Foundations 101
A course designed to prepare students for Pre-Algebra. Through mnemonics, visuals, and models, students will create an understanding of higher level fractions, decimals, and percents; circumference and area of a circle; metrics; measurement; exponents; unknowns; probability; line segments; planes; mean; median; mode; angles; and an introduction to geometry and algebra. (2 semester course)
MTH 201 Pre-Algebra
A course designed to prepare students for Algebra. Topics include basic number theory, operations involving positive and negative numbers, proportions, developing mathematical models, arithmetic with fractions, exponents and radicals, reducing and simplifying expressions, data interpretation (range, mean, mode, median) and graphing. (2 semester course)
MTH Algebra
This course is designed to introduce students to algebraic modeling and thinking. Students will learn and master several techniques to solve common algebraic problems. (2 semester course)
Prerequisites: Pre-Algebra or a minimum score of 80 on the Algebra readiness exam. Consent of the instructor can waive these requirements.
MTH 301 Geometry
This course is a survey of the foundations of Euclidean Geometry and their applications. Special emphasis is placed on developing and applying mathematical logic as it pertains to mathematical reasoning and solving proofs. Geometric theorems and concepts will be explored using problem solving strategies. (2 semester course)
Prerequisites: Algebra I or a minimum score of 80 on the Algebra I final.
MTH 302 Algebra II
This course is a continuation of the skills students learned in Algebra I. Concepts will include an introduction to matrix algebra and how it can be used to solve systems of linear equations, conics, logarithms, Euler’s number, introduction to the complex numbers, and exploring exponential, rational, and radical functions. (2 semester course)
Prerequisites: Geometry and Algebra I or a minimum score of 80 on the Algebra II readiness exam.
MTH 303 Pre-Calculus
This course is designed as a survey course to get students ready for calculus. Students will explore concepts in trigonometry, trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, the unit circle, piecewise functions, polar equations, vectors, asymptotes, and mathematical singularities. (2 semester course)
Prerequisites: Algebra II or a minimum score of 80 on the Algebra II course final.
NXT Robotics
Students will gain, display and master Lego NXT/Mindstorms robots through designing, building and programming robots. This program is offered in 2-9 week sessions. Offered by Advancing Robots, $20 supply fee. (1 semester course)
